Huckleberry Mine applying for an extension

Huckleberry molybdenum Mine will be keeping workers going for another seven years if a proposed new expansion gets approved.
Huckleberry molybdenum Mine is located approximately 80 kilometres south west of Houston.
“We are looking to get an extension to 2021,” he said. “We are currently going through the permitting and feasibility process.”
“We may be expanding some temporary work initially to get it off the ground, but overall it’ll be the same workforce,” he said.
“That’s not going to change. We’re not going to do an expansion of the mill itself.”

Ceramic ball + metal socket approved

The first ever ceramic and metal total artificial hip system for patients as been approved this week. So, the hip joint consists of a ball-shaped bone at the top end of the thigh bone  that fits into a rounded socket in the pelvis.
When the joint becomes worn and torn, total hip replacement surgery is needed to remove and replace damaged bone and cartilage.
In particular, a shell or cup replaces the socket, and a stem is inserted into the thigh bone and the ball shaped bone at the top of the stem is fitted inside the curved artificial socket where the ball can slide around for movement.
The new hip system is the first to combine a ceramic ball and a metal socket.

Tungsten pit restart

The company said “global demand for tin and tungsten, a metalcommonly used for light bulb filament, was rising fast”.
A piece of tungsten was uncovered in 1867 at Hemerdon but commercial mining ended there in 1944 because of cheaper imports.
The tungsten mine will be 2,624 ft long, 1,476ft wide and 754ft deep.
Humphrey Hale, managing director, said: “The environment is important to all of us.
“We are controlled by Devon County Council and the Environment Agency.”

Gold price decreases.

Gold has fallen quickly after the Chinese government reported that it will raise reserve requirements for banks by another 50 basis points in the recent attempts to calm inflation.
This is already the 6th increase in 6 months.
The most recent consumer price index update shows that inflation in China increased to 5.5%  last month, the highest in 36 months.
China’s continuing efforts to curb growth in consumer prices dampensgold’s appeal as an inflation hedge.
The US dollar, which is seen as an alternative investment to gold, was broadly flat against other major currencies.

Kazakhmys gets $1.5bn loan from China

China Development bank will be helping out FTSE with boosting production of their copper mine by as much as 60% to meet growing demand from China, but lending them $1.5 billion.
“Chinese companies already control one-fifth of Kazakhstan’s oil production and they are expanding their presence more and more,” said Bulat Abilov, co-founder of the Azat party. “What’s going on at the oilfields is a threat to the independence of the country and national security.”
“We are delighted to be developing our relationship further with CDB. This funding will allow us to develop Aktogay and yet retain full ownership of the asset,” said Oleg Novachuk, Kazakhmys chief executive.

Copper Up on China Demand View

Copper futures snapped a four-session losing streak on strong economic data out of China, raising expectations that the world’s largest metals consumer will boost imports.
“You look at low [Chinese] inventory levels and today’s steady industrial demand, chances are the import numbers into China in the future might be healthier,” said Bart Melek, head of commodity strategy at TD Securities. “I suspect the market is seeing a bit more physical buying in China.”
“By July we will begin to see a steady increase in copper import levels,” says Barclays Capital base-metals analyst Nicholas Snowdon.
“Even that hand-to-mouth consumption has been enough to drastically draw down domestic stocks,” Barclays Capital’s Mr. Snowdon said.

Copper falls on economic concerns

LME copper prices fell 2 percent on Wednesday after Federal Reserve’s Bernanke bleak assessment of the US economy depressed market sentiment, and with a stronger dollar also weighing.
“Growth is slowing. Momentum is slowing,” said VTB Capital analyst Andrey Kryuchenkov, adding that the Fed comments only underlined what was evident from bearish data published last week.
A slightly stronger dollar was also weighing on metals.
The dollar recovered from a one-month low against a basket of currencies although it was trading lower against the yen, in a general flight away from risk to safety.
Investors were unwinding risky positions in stocks and commodity-linked currencies buying the dollar, yen and swiss franc.
A stronger US currency makes dollar-priced commodities costlier for holders of other currencies. Looking at fundamentals, the copper outlook seemed to be slowly improving, Kryuchenkov said.
“It seems like in China things are getting a bit better. Inventories are going down, which is ok, but I want to see LME copper in backwardation first.

New ‘liquid smart metal’ can go hard or floppy

Top boffins in Germany and China say they have developed a remarkable new type of metal material which can switch from being strong and hard to soft and squashy at the touch of a button.
“For the first time we have succeeded in producing a material which, while in service, can switch back and forth between a state of strong and brittle behavior and one of soft and malleable,” says the prof. “We are still at the fundamental research stage but our discovery may bring significant progress in the development of so-called smart materials.”

Johnson Matthey warns on rising metals costs

The company, which produces about one third of the catalytic converters used in vehicles worldwide, warned that the prices of rare earth metals were rising sharply.
Neil Carson, chief executive, remained bullish despite the negative market reaction, declaring that the company had seen a return “to strong growth”.
“The drivers that will provide superior earnings growth for the group in our existing markets remain strong,” Mr Carson said.
“We are increasing our investment in research and development in order to target new areas of future growth for our business.”

Gold prices: ‘Lower price beckons’ say RBS

The World Gold Council has published its “Gold Demand Trends” review. It shows that an astonishing 349 tonnes or 63% of world goldjewellery demand (557t) was accounted for by China and India in Q1 2011.
Nick Moore, a gold and silver analyst at RBS comments:  ”If we also add in bar and coin investment, then at a combined 526t these two countries took up 57% of world jewellery+investment. There was also an impressive 129t of official sector buying, dominated by 93t of purchases by the Bank of Mexico during February and March.
“But strip out official sector transactions and the underlying demand for gold in Q1 was an impressive 1,000t, compared with a quarterly average in 2010 of 993tpq and in 2009 of 905tpq.”

What the volcanic ash is doing to aeroplanes

Again its happened, the Icelandic volcano has erupted and caused another ash cloud, and airlines are getting quite freaked out by it. Not as much as last time though!
“They are made of sharp rock fragments that will easily erode plastic, metal and even glass pieces.”
“Volcanic ash contains particles, whose melting point is below engine internal temperature.
“In-flight, these particles will immediately melt if they go through an engine. Going through a turbine, the materials are rapidly cooled down, stick on the turbine vanes, and disturb the flow of high pressure combustion gases.”
“Ash deposits easily absorbs into water and can cause arcing, short circuits and intermittent failure of electronic components.”
As a knock on affect of this the manual outlined how, “Dense ash deposit can clog bleed system filters and may lead to total bleed loss, with associated loss of cabin pressurisation.”

Metal thieves ’steal’ copper from rail line

Selfish thieves left many train passengers stranded on platforms across Essex for hours over the weekend.
One passenger from Chelmsford, was left stranded at Shenfield Station for more than three hours before he was able to get home.
He said: “There must have been over 100 of us there waiting to be told of any news.
“After about an hour of just standing in the foyer, someone said a coach had been organised, but it turned up an hour after that. Then we were told only people with children and pregnant women could get on first, and after it was full no one told us whether another one was coming or not.
“I eventually got home by train hours later, but many people couldn’t wait and took taxis.”
The not so clever metal thieves tried to steal expensive copper from Chelmsford’s rail lines between May 11 and 16, which left people unable stuck, stranded and unaware of how or when they would be home, what the thieves didn’t know was that it wasn’t expensivecopper after all and it was actually aluminium.

Why we supply Gold

Gold is a chemical element with the symbol Au (from its Latin name aurum) and atomic number 79.
It is a highly sought-after precious metal, having been used as money, as a store of value, in jewelry, in sculpture, and for ornamentation since the beginning of recorded history.
The metal occurs as nuggets or grains in rocks, underground “veins” and in alluvial deposits.
It is one of the coinage metals. Gold is dense, soft, shiny and the most malleable and ductile substance known.
Pure gold has a bright yellow color traditionally considered attractive.
Gold formed the basis for the gold standard used before the collapse of the Bretton Woods system in 1971.
The ISO currency code of gold bullion is XAU.

About Silver

Silver is a very ductile and malleable (slightly harder than gold) monovalent coinage metal with a brilliant white metallic luster that can take a high degree of polish.
It has the highest electrical conductivity of all metals, even higher thancopper, but its greater cost has prevented it from being widely used in place of copper for electrical purposes.
