Molybdenum Mining Production Rise

Mining production rose 6.2% in December 2009 compared with the December 2008, the state run National Statistics Institute, or INE reported on the 30th.

That result means that Chile’s increasing mining output for the January – November period was unaffected relative to the first 11 months of 2008, the report said.

November’s piece was buoyed by increases in the output of copper, molybdenum, gold, iron ore, although increases were offset somewhat by rejecting manufacture of silver, zinc, lead and manganese.

In November, the index progressed 7.8% compared to the same month of 2008 due to 7.3% increase in the copper index and 0.4% percent rise in the other index.

The non-metallic index plunged 15% because of a steep drop in the output of the nitrate and lithium carbonate between January and November, this fell 6.2% year on year

metal blaze causes road closure

A factory in the west midlands, that has ignited 1,400 tonnes of metal, could possibly take many says to put out.

Dunne Brothers on Moor Street, Brierly Hill, which is where the fire started took around 30 firefighters to tackle it.

The tonnes of metal, 1,400 of it could take ages to put out due to the metal burning cannot be put out with water. Luckily nobody was hurt during the blaze, and the street was closed, but has not been reopened again.

Tony Jackson, watch manager at Brierley Hill fire station, said smoke was drifting away from residential areas.

He added fire crews would be at the site for most of Tuesday and would also be checking the burning metal over the next three or four days.
“To disturb it is really the worst thing you can do. We just let it take its time, it will burn itself out,” he said.

“There’s no danger to anyone else, it’s a contained site so that’s the best course of action.”

Potential found at Mt Carbine Tungsten Project

ICON Resources have pointed out the potential of the Mt Carbine TungstenProject in north Queensland.
The declaration comes after the company came across high grade mineralisation from completing assaying mineralised core from the upper portion of legacy drill CB18.
Icon Resources said the outcome includes 8m @ 0.36% WO3 within 27m averaging 0.14% WO3 from 105m and 18m @ 0.37% WO3 within 47m averaging 0.23% WO3 from 163m.
According to Icon Resources, the grades are more than the assumed overall grade of mineralisation at Mt Carbine which is estimated to be around 0.2% WO3.
Icon Resources claims the outcome will make the Mt Carbine Tungsten Project the company’s top priority in its drilling campaign.

Plans to Drill For East Kirup Lithium-Tantalite-Tin Prospect

Following the ending of the joint venture with Ord River Diamonds, 100% ownership of the East Kirup lithium-tantalite-tin exploration prospect has decline to Red River Resources Limited As a result Red River is now planning to carry out a 6,000m programme at East Kirup during February-March 2010.

The East Kirup outlook is a lithium-tantalum-tin geochemical anomaly 4km long by up to 1.5km wide that occurs in E70/2435 and which is situated 20km north-northwestward on structural geological trend from the Greenbushes lithium-tantalite-tin mine. The Greenbushes mine is a world class deposit that contains Total Measured, Indicated and Inferred Resources of 25.2 million tonnes of 3.6% Li2O (Talison Lithium Prospectus, 2009) as well as substantial connected tantalite-tin mineralisation. Geochemical sampling carried out by Red River has delineated well-known geochemically anomalous lithium, tantalite and tin over the East Kirup prospect area which is interpreted as a mineralised halo over better mineralisation at depth. The approaching drill program is designed to test that concept and is likely to be followed by a programme of deeper drilling.
